Set on a picturesque equestrian farm yet enjoying its own private grounds, it really is the perfect countryside retreat. Explore Tintern Abbey, woodlands, scenic Wye Valley walks, charming Monmouth, local pubs and wonderful cycling routes, then return to the peace and tranquillity of your own rural hideaway. Discover ancient castles, riverside villages, breathtaking views and endless countryside.

We are surrounded by some of the most spectacular countryside in Monmouthshire. Set on a picturesque equestrian farm, the cottage enjoys its own private grounds and entrance, giving you the best of both worlds – the character and charm of a working countryside setting with plenty of privacy to relax and unwind.

This is a wonderful base for families, couples, walkers, cyclists and animal lovers, and we’re delighted to be pet friendly, welcoming up to two well-behaved dogs.

A wonderful location for exploring too

You really are spoilt for choice here. Trellech is surrounded by woodland, rolling countryside and miles of walking routes. The official Wye Valley National Landscape routes include Trellech Beacon, while the local 24 Wells and Springs walk takes you through historic Trellech and towards Cleddon Falls.

Spend a day exploring spectacular Tintern Abbey, wander beside the River Wye, visit the shops and cafés at Abbey Mill or enjoy the green open spaces at The Old Station Tintern. Tintern is particularly lovely for dog owners, with riverside and woodland walks and several dog-friendly places to visit.

Historic Monmouth is also within easy reach, with independent shops, cafés and restaurants to discover alongside Monmouth Castle. For those who love history, Raglan Castle and Chepstow Castle make fantastic days out; Visit Wales highlights Tintern, Chepstow and Raglan among the area’s major historic attractions.

Brilliant for families

Cross into the nearby Forest of Dean and you’ll find plenty to keep younger guests entertained. Head underground at Clearwell Caves, where families can explore nine impressive caverns and discover the area’s fascinating mining history. Families can also enjoy Perrygrove Railway Adventure, while the wider Wye Valley offers cycling, woodland adventures, riverside picnics and days spent simply exploring the great outdoors.

Wildlife lovers should keep their eyes open too. The Wye Valley is known for wildlife including red kites, peregrine falcons and otters, making the area particularly special for nature lovers.

Walk, explore… or simply slow down

You don’t have to fill every day with sightseeing. Pull on your walking boots and head out into the countryside, discover hidden lanes and viewpoints, enjoy a family walk through the woods or find a peaceful spot overlooking the Wye Valley. There are routes ranging from gentle strolls to more energetic walks, so there’s something for most abilities.

Afterwards, return to your own private countryside retreat, relax and enjoy the wonderful rural surroundings and the atmosphere of the equestrian farm.

You won’t have to travel far for a traditional country pub. Lion Inn is right in Trellech, less than a few minutes drive or a short walk, More local pubs:

The Carpenters Arms in llanishen (5 min drive)

The Bush in Penallt ( 7 min drive )

The Boat at Redbrook is right on the river while Fountain Inn at Trellech Grange is another nearby option.

For supplies, Monmouth has an excellent choice of supermarkets, including Waitrose & Partners, Lidl, M&S Foodhall and Co-op Food - Monmouth - Rockfield Road, as well as plenty of independent shops, cafés and places to eat.

We love welcoming dogs and accept a maximum of two well-behaved pets. With so many countryside and woodland walks nearby, it’s a fantastic destination to enjoy together.

As the cottage is situated on an equestrian farm and surrounded by fields, dogs must be kept under control and must never be allowed to wander into surrounding livestock fields. We also kindly ask that dogs do not go upstairs or on beds or furniture. An additional cleaning surcharge will apply if these pet rules are not followed.
